Not interested. This backstory shows he treated her with prejudice like everyone else. Also, he went the extra step of refusing to commuicate for the sake of her feelings unlike her brother, father, and mentor.
So yeah, he’s not good enough for her. It was not her responsibility to go through all this to change his mind. In all honesty, it’d be best for her to be independent and focus on her own aspirations. She doesn’t need to fix his insecurities. That’s his job.
@slanted Oh you mean, like it’s her job to go through all the ordeals and desillusions she’s going through alone ? No, he’s there for her too. People who care about each other, romantically or not, should be helping each other. To be honest, SHE is the idiot for not understanding that he likes her but cares about her status, and not confronting him about it. Everyone else but her is aware of it. But as usual, she was being very self-centered and couldn’t even imagine his concerns, because that’s how she was raised. They both have a share of responsibility in their drifting apart, but they also both are byproducts of their social environment and education. I think it’s great if they can help each other break out of those prejudices !
The problem is Juverine dropping the news on Damian in public without discussing it with him. It’s fine for Claudia to tell him she wants to marry Damian. Juverine should have then discussed it with Damian, at which point his objections could be addressed in private. And then either he would accept it, or not, but there would be no public announcement making them clash like that.
I’ll reiterate. It’s not her responsibility to go through all this *to change his mind*. This trip is her decision based on her inner needs and is resulting in her growth. That was sparked by the qualities she had from the beginning. As you say, there’s a cast of people so far that’s been helping on this trip (for their own reasons). She’s been the center of that. Demian seems to recognize it but still chooses to keep to the outside in his little role of swordsman. If he’s going to commit to that with no change then it’s appropriate for him to have the words “I’m sorry” at the ready. She’s been, by far, the better person.
