Honestly, the misunderstanding is not just dumb, but also Dillon should just not accept the apology. Even when she thinks about what she’s done, she doesn’t actually look at it from his perspective. I mean, he kissed her and confessed, and rather than reciprocate she told him to wait and left him hanging. They then haven’t been seeing each other for a while, meaning she hasn’t reached out to him. While she’s processed her feelings and has been thinking of how to do a perfect response, he’s been kept in the dark. It stands to reason for someone under those circumstances to back down rather than wait to be rejected. It might be a bit cowardly, but if he came to believe “she’s going to say no”, he could try to get out of it by apologizing and coming up with some excuse.
So even as a misunderstanding it doesn’t make sense for her to take him at his word that he didn’t mean to kiss her, or that he regrets it. Also a bit annoying that she doesn’t seem to have picked up that he tends to say what he thinks she wants to hear. I do fault him for that, he could stand to be more honest with his opinions, even if they contradict hers.
