Surrogate literally means substitute. It’s just that in modern day, it’s been more used to describe someone who carries a baby on behalf of someone else. So when Ruediger says he was used as a surrogate duelist, he means that he’d finish the fights his brother started. AKA, he was cleaning up the messes that Jonas kept creating, probably with his philandering ways (philandering ways is another way to describe someone as a playboy).
