I don’t quite understand the dynamics here. How did they get to this point in the first place? It makes no sense that she holds all the real power but is abused. She is the one that produces the money and has the lineage, and she seemed to be loved and well adjusted at some point. Then her mother died, and somehow she was robbed of everything, despite being the one that produces the funds to keep the family afloat.
I would understand if it were the case of a step-mother seizing the guardianship of the family, so she controls the assets, but this is not the situation. She showed when coming back that all she has to do is demand something and they have no choice but to comply. So why did she let herself be pushed around to this point in the first place? At some point the old crone asked her to give up her room, and she said “yes” instead of “no”, and still somehow believed she was loved? She knew what real love was, so how could they fool her?
