I have nothing against the kid pursuing art but for her to assure him that swordsmanship is not important isn’t sitting right with me.
He needs to learn the basics at the very least, he’s the future duke he needs to be able to protect himself. A paintbrush in the hands of a person who learned nothing of self-defence in any form wont keep him safe.
What is he going to let his wife protect him cuz she learned to swordsmanship?
I don’t think it honestly matters much if he himself doesn’t pursue swordsmanship, and it looks like he already has the basics, just not being good at it.
So what if his wife is the one that protects him? Usually the wife has no skills of defense and is the one protected by knights or her husband, so what’s the problem with that trope being turned in its head? ?
I agree with @AurasJewel, so long as he knows the basics, which he seems to, then it’s fine. He can always hire great knights or his wife, Lili, can be the knight figurehead for the duchy. I do agree that our MC is a bit too lenient at times. After all, it’s important for kids to still do things they may not like because it helps them problem solve (when properly encouraged) or learn ways to cope and communicate which is important as an adult
I do agree it will definitely be beneficial for him to keep learning swordsmanship. But to me as long as he keep minimal amount of training, like other comments here on how to keep polishing his basic sword skills, i do think thats fine because swordsmanship is something you need to ingrain with your body, very much like modern sports. So if you weren’t born with a body adequate to that need, even how much lessons you’ll take, it wouldn’t be easy to master it.
Plus since he’ll be heading the dukedom in the future, he will always have personal aides and knights and typically most dukedom usually have their own private military which is why in a lot of cases many dukedom can rival the royalty because of that.
There’s no need to take this thing too seriously ? pretty sure the author or artist just skipped those details and focus on the family troupe instead. i don’t think it’s a problem for them to focus on letting Elliot taking what he interested on instead of pressing him. rationally, he would learn swordsmanship but not now. maybe in the future?
