People respond to trauma differently, and it is VERY common for a victim who grew up with a controllint/narcissistic mother to revert back to past habits if they don’t have outside support. At the moment, the MC doesn’t have support (as she doesn’t think her husband is on her side). Similarly, it’s why victims respond similarly to others who remind them of their abusive mothers, because it’s habit. So, it’s understandable the MC is seeing her own mother in this woman and is feeling the pressure. Naturally, she’ll be able to overcome it, but that takes TIME and SUPPORT.
