In her past life he undermined her relationship with her brother and encouraged her to usurp the throne, pushing her over the edge before betraying her in turn. And with the kids here, he saw that they were forming some kind of bond so he manipulated them into ruining something of hers that he knew she valued.
He never acted in her best interest, he only acted to benefit himself. I had been giving him the benefit of the doubt before, since MLs being possessive is par for the course and him being envious of Theon made sense given how obvious it was that she liked him. But he’s gone way over the line here. The kids were not “competition”, they were just potential friends who could have helped her not be so lonely. And he tried to ruin that friendship in the cruelest way he had available. He is a sociopath and can’t be trusted.
