Mariette is different. as a game dev, as a crippled character with a shitty family, and as someone slated to basically be collateral, she sees this world as impersonal. sure she’s gotta survive, but she experienced a ton of love in her past life and this one is a bunch of 0s and 1s. her method of survival requires a lot more balls, so to speak
so yeah her plan is kinda dumb, but its decent. she’s stronger than most people, she’s got knowledge of the world, she’s there in the eyes of a PLAYER, and not a random NPC. the plan is meant to kinda fail but who cares? she’s headstrong and very cunning but also very realistic and we don’t often get them like that anymore
She cannot be killed easily. She is around level 200. She can kill people in one hit. Besides, she just wants to stay near Ricardo like an unknown henchmen. She doesn’t want big responsibilities or go up the ranks of the mafia. She just wants an easy and safe life near Ricardo and then an easy and safe life with the female lead.

After all, no matter how strong Ricardo is, for her who knows the plot and the main characters, she still believed that the FL’s halo is stronger than the villain’s. So ofc, in her mind, basking in the FL’s halo is safer than being with the villain. Also, let’s not forget that aside from being the developer of the game (which means she still perhaps thought that she can be in control for knowing what will happen) her morality is vague. Meaning, she can be extremely evil or not. There’s no kindness in her, however, she also doesn’t take pleasure in doing bad things. That’s why she can’t also be called immoral. Her morality only depends on how she’s going to survive
I also forgot to mention that although she’s speaking of her plan like that, it actually kinda make sense. You might be thinking, she knows Ricardo is the villain so how’s she’s going set him up. In her mind, SHE CAN BE CONSIDER AS HIS CREATOR OR ONE OF HIS CREATORS, therefore, she knows his weaknesses and such. And lastly, when she speaks of her future plan, she treated Ricardo as nothing more than a tool. So considering him as a real friend as they got along or whatsoever never crossed her mind, probably. Anyway, my point is, if you put yourself in her shoes and not on our perspective as readers who tends to be able to guess the plot, I think it kinda makes sense
