I think what happened isn’t being conveyed here. The novel describes this as Cedric intending to push Hikan off the second story railing but Dalia intervenes. As they are falling, Hikan spins them around in an attempt to keep Dalia safe (cushioning her with his body, if you will).
Oh, and Cedric has a good reason why he doesn’t trust anyone but he does Dalia. Let’s say it has to do with the fact that Dalia is very honest and consistent in words, actions and thoughts. And that’s something that brings Cedric solace.
