My theory is that the Emperor and Empress were engaged from childhood (parents set it up) and grew up together. They accepted the fact they would get married in the future but had no problem with it because even if they didn’t love each other, they were still compatible and were a good team. The emperor probably met Estrella’s mother and fell in love with her or just a mere infatuation that led him to have an affair. The Empress didn’t mind, because she had no romantic feelings for him and was happy that he found love. That is why she accepted Estrella so easily.
