I believe he loved her all four lives. They died tragically the first live, in which they were married. The 2nd life the prince who coveted her remember the past and used all the linea carel used to swoon her. Of course she kills him and herself. Then she kept her memories and fell for the painter to then kill herself again. So she only remembers the 2nd and 3rd life but doesn’t remember her happy first life that was cut short due to sickness.
I can’t wait to see this life and how they fall in love because they are endgame.

@thingytrace not to be the ruiner of romanticized stories, but him “fucking all those girls before marriage” isn’t necessarily a bad thing lol. there engagement was done on a whim and was also semi-business/political. what matters is maintaining fidelity during the marriage. ines herself also doesn’t care. it’s kind of childish to assume people can’t have sex prior to the wedding, especially in a story with such a politically driven environment. yeah it’s kind of dickish and frowned upon but it’s not *bad* per se
