So technically the marquis and margrave are both underlings for the empress it wouldn’t make sense for the empress to start a rebellion for her own country so it could be that someone manipulated her and she created the rebellion without even knowing or If she actually knows what she is doing there must be something to gain from it and maybe it has to do with fl best friends past husbands kingdom? It sounds a bit confusing but what if they had a deal and it was to get the fls friend on their side by marrying her? Plus it says on like ch 10 or 20 something that after fl friend found out something about her husband she was devastated so maybe he has a part in this? That’s all I can think of
Adding on, the reason why marques and margrave (the empress’s lackeys) wanted the downfall of ml’s and fl’s family is due to the power they hold. Ml’s family is the direct (if im not mistaken) descendant of the royal family (there’s a mention that the current king and queen ‘inherited’ the kingdom almost ruined). Fl’s family is one of the 3 swordsman families and holds great power plus very loyal to the king (with them gone, its easier to start the rebellion). The princess’ kingdom is said to be small and weak, with powerless royals that are even monitored by the nobels. Now the enemy is an empire, tbh it makes so much sense why the kingdom fell. Now they have a higher chance of changing the situation because they get the silver pink guy on their side. Even if the lackeys are dealt with, the empress will still pose a threat to the kingdom
What we have yet to know is what those two lackeys are promised by the empress. Like @Iamherefinally<3 said, there must be something to gain, even if its just to enlarge their land. But the empire wants something that the kingdom has
