Here’s my guess, not sure how far down the future it would be but–Cloud, since he’s ML, will marry Ophelia and thus, Irene will become the head of the Duchy. Meaning, she’d have more agency on who she chooses as a partner since the other will be coming into her family rather than her going to theirs.

Whatever arrangements the aunt did are her own problem, since as Ophelia pointed out, she is a member of a different family and her proposals can be easily brushed aside by Cloud. She can try to get them to meet all she wants, but as long as Cloud himself is not convinced he can refuse. And attending does help Irene become established, so her own goals are being moved forward. It may be uncomfortable and makes her jealous, but she hasn’t really weakened her position.
