When they first found her I thought she had died. It’s amazing she’s still alive. At the very least her mother will spend her remaining life living comfortably. Who knows how much time she has left though. Her body has taken more abuse than most humans would be able to stand.
While terribly sad, I’m glad the author chose to be a bit realistic on how the mother is fairing. Indeed, it makes sense her body and mind have given out from all the torment, stress, and abuse. We can sometimes only help with hospice rather than a full recovery.
