My theories:
1. He actually wants to marry his brothers dead lover
2. She always dated him but he used Micharls name to avoid getting hassled about getting married and succession
3. Michael didn’t die but his brother did and for some reason chose to live as his brother instead
4. Michael isn’t actually dead but chose to leave the family therefor they faked his death

6. Since they dated for over a year without her confessing her love for him. Micharl assumed he wasn’t good enough as the second son. Killed his brother in a staged accident and then only got yo know that she did indeed love him when he cried over Michaels brother body, that’s why Michael now as his brothet told her to accept reality since he didn’t like her crying over his brothers corpse. Then Michael now as his brother let her grive before proposing yo her again and this time quickly getting married so she has to stay by his side and fall in love again.
