I’m guessing the translation is wrong or it could be that the story is just weird. I’m guessing the grandfather had to leave to ‘el dorado’ but he cannot leave the child on his estate for some reason. So he asked this guy who owed him a favor. It is an introduction on how the child wanted to own a farm. It is not that good or it is silly but it is what we got.
yes so if you think about it, a barony is the lowest of the aristocrats. typically, commoners who try to “buy” a title can only afford barony status unless they marry, perform a grand act of duty, or are otherwise granted a higher title by other means. its likely that the FL lost her parents in a sudden accident and the grandpa either had to leave to handle one matter or other and had neither the means nor the time to care for the FL. she would be too young and it’d be too dangerous and it’s not like he’s a spring chicken either. he probably had to leave her with people he could trust to take care of her until he could come back
