I’d put my money on her being lonely -no family, friends or otherwise- and so filling the void with material possessions. Especially since she was only 9 when sent away from home and put in this scary new place with a (presumably) grown husband who terrified her. Don’t know about being spoilt, but definitely using abit of retail therapy
