I think the plot is well-paced, since everything up until now was setting up for the actual action of finding out who killed her family. It had to be presented this way.
Lippe never forgot her original goal and even began planning how to get ahead of all of the misfortune when she was young; starting with becoming known in the social circles, helping Julian to keep him from becoming a killer, owning the land of the stigma, building her family’s wealth and reputation, changing public opinion of folk songs to prevent the church from gaining power, and gaining control/access to the news media.
All of these things happened at intervals throughout her life and they were necessary to elaborate on in order for the actions of the plot to make sense—since all of these things that she did and involved herself with were things that she believed contributed to her family’s demise in her previous life.
