I love how everyone is claiming he abandoned her, but it was already explained in the flash back. That he left to go to war/fight and only recently came back. She wasn’t neglected, people were there taking care of her. If that’s neglect, then every parent who has ever left there child with a babysitter while they’re on vacation or any trip has neglected their child. Besides, cut the man some slack, he lost the love of his life.
I’m not excusing the fact that he did stay away from her the beginning years of her life, but when someone has gone through something traumatic. Unfortunately, everything else gets thrown to the side and left unattended. This reminds me of post partum depression that a lot of women go through after giving birth. Except in his case, he saw someone very important to him die before his eyes.
