I don’t like ML. Call me a bitch or an overeating bitch but he literally threatened her. He made an oath where she cannot “leave” because then the outcome will not be so good. That’s toxic ? He A) Cannot take rejection. B) Leave her alone and C) Be a gentleman and leave her be for God sake. I hope she turns the table and makes him look stupid and leave or maybe I am fantasying a non realistic ending because all innocent MC end up with trashy abusive ML’s in plots like these.

I hate how this story seems to be heading towards this king being the endgame ML. He doesn’t deserve it. Idc if he gets a character arc. As she said, this is not love. He did not respect her decision or happiness at all, but instead threatens and trap her without caring about her wishes. Trash behavior. Glad I’m not the only one who thinks so. But damn it, I’m too invested in this story now to leave.
Meh… This just points to a reason he’s doing this which has nothing to do with their relationship. He wouldn’t risk his soul for a petty love obsession since he didn’t do it before and straight up told her love isn’t his thing. There’s evidently something in the future that requires her to be the empress or just in the palace. He knows it and isn’t telling her what it is. Whether it’s for her own safety/benefit or not is the only question at this point.
I just read the last few chapters again. It seems this is the turning point for ML and not any of the previous chapters. His inner dialogue in this conversation appears to say that, prior to now, he would have forced her to be with him without qualm. Her happiness wasn’t important. But, right now it is and he’s aware of it. This oath and doubt may upset him more than he shows. After all he is an unfeeling tyrant who uses people to advance his goals… or has been up to this conversation. So, unless this is bad writing there’s something going on that he’s not explained yet.

@slanted I actually agree. I think we’re not getting the full picture (shortcomings of a manhwa rather than a novel). I also doubt that a guy labeled as narcissistic, self absorbed, and douche-y but nearly everyone would just go and risk his soul on a life oath (which, in these settings, are 200% serious) AND explicitly state that it may only break if either of them die, and that he would give her everything so long as HE stands. he could’ve just said if only SHE died or hinged the whole oath on her, but didn’t. not excusing his behavior, but there is a clear issue with his ability to understand and communicate his feelings, which isn’t entirely just a character flaw, but a psychological one, and I figured I’d give him a couple more chapters before deciding he’s a lost cause
The duke is either going to be a new ally or another person who will have feelings for her. I think he will def be the turning point where the emperor will stop getting so confused with his feelings of her.
