I dunno. I’m getting a weird vibe from anette. Her personality feels like things that the author wants her to say. In other words, she doesnt have a personality. At one time she is a saint who forgives her sis in an instant, and the other she became a calculated woman who instantly think that the guy have some other intention to marrying her.
And then at one time she have low self esteem because she is still unmarried, which resulted her to never attend any party, but then at the other time she became confident enough to look a duke in the eyes fearlessly and even tease him. I know that the teasing is a slip up, but that is just a poor excuse to force the romance to happen.
I feel like Anette is very similar to Bella from Twilight. Both have low self esteem, but incredibly popular. Both have inconsistent personality. Both only act accordingly because the writer says so.
I dont mind if her personality is a saint. Although it is an annoying personality, it’s even more annoying if it’s not consistent. If she is such a saint, why can she immediately figure out the most calculating answer and immediately figure out he have another motive behind his marriage proposal? If she is sharp enough to figure that out, why is she trusting her evil sis unconditionally? It doesn’t make sense. Even if sometimes a character makes a contradictory actions against their own personality, u need to explain it to the readers/audience.
And then anette have low self esteem cuz she is not married yet, when in reality she is incredibly popular. It’s almost as of her pain is fake all this time, excluding the pain she received from her evils sis. But it still makes the readers have a harder time sympathizing with her. Anette, if ur so afraid of rumors about u being unmarried to the point ur avoiding party, why are u staring at a duke fearlessly? Weren’t you the type of person who is self conscious about urself not being married yet? And yet u are confidently staring at the duke and even make an argument that “I have a freedom to think however I like”? See what i mean? It doesn’t add up.
Like I said, anette’s personality depends on how the writer wants it. And there are other things i would like to say as well, but that would take a long time. This concept is new and refreshing, but unfortunately it is executed poorly
I take back what I said yesterday, I think he might be the ml based on the cover but I thought it would be someone else, like the man her sister talked about, the man who is “not powerful” I thought that man would be the ml. I honestly do not care about who the ml is.
Hmm I also share the same opinion that the FL personality is kinda inconsistent and sometimes contradictory. She is…well…supposed to be a saintly character, right? But sometimes she slipped out comments that are not beffiting for her. Like how she smiled a bit mokingly while thinking it was funny to see the duke hesitated to keep holding the empress’ hand. She sounded just like a reguler background character who is only there to gossip. Even if the author trying to justify it by making it looks like she adopts various personality from the books she has read…..it just doesn’t make sense to me. I mean would someone with a low self-esteem, selfless, and unambitious character be able to pull off more various personalities just by adopting it from the books she has read? I would understand that reasoning if she’s basically a witty or cunning character with great and clear ambitions. That would give her a great reason. But being saintly and while being a chameleon (because of the changes of personality) just doesn’t go hand in hand. There are also some of her actions that can’t be explained just by that reasoning. Like how she said that she’s not looking for power and want someone who is polite, but then later asked what she could get in return from the marriage with the duke. Sure that can imply something else other than power, but the way she word it makes it sounds like she is calculative and doesn’t want to lose anything. I wanted to say more but I think I think I’ll end my short essay here?
Annettes personality is soooo inconsistent, im confused. At first shes a shy saint, who forgives her sis and is kind to everyone, but then she laughs mockingly at the duke holding the emperors hand. And then she continues on to look him boldy in the eyes, and she also teases him, its so weird, i dont really like her POV anymore, i wish marriette could have the only POV and she could be the FL but then at times marriette seems so passive, and way too pushy, its kind of annoying
