I’m high so I don’t remember everything, but didn’t they showed what happening, in the past. like why he acted the way he did. Everything was a misunderstanding , he always loved her , but because of her dad , he divorced her . I mean come on even right now he doesn’t care if they also kill her .

Also, yes, he misunderstood that she didn’t love him but she had, from the start, the opportunity to dispell such misunderstanding. He confirmed her feelings and asked her the “you don’t love anyways” shit. But what did she do? She let her pride speak for itself and said “yes I never loved you” ? right there she could have changed the course of their fate (and we won’t be reading anything ?) but she let her disappointment of him not knowing that she loves him and all her efforts were for him. How was he even supposed to know when she never said anything ? for all we know he might have an inkling but she never really confirmed with him and all he’s really sure of is that she’s the daughter of the bastard duke.
Yes he’s basically detaining her but isn’t she also withholding his parental rights??? Aren’t they the same??
Who are we to say who is the greater evil in this situation when they both had misgivings??
