idk if diana is stupid or not, but I don’t think that she is completely evil either. if she is manipulated by the prince, then she is going to catch on eventually (we know that their marriage doesn’t last long) so she is not dimwitted. her characterisation is really weird. on one side she abandoned kael because he killed someone for her which would usually show that she cares for people and would not sacrifice them for her own benefit. but she also stopped going to the temple and doing her duties as the saint when she became the crown princess and even after her divorce she didn’t try to reconcile with kael, which would usually show that she only used the commoners, temple and kael. we don’t have enough info at the moment to sway her on either side and at least some of these events would need to have different implications to make sense. For exemple if she is evil than she abandoned kael for a different reason (probably just to harm him) and only used the murder as an excuse. If she is good there might be some circumstances between her and the temple we don’t know about and she might think that kael is just as bad as the prince. And if she is stupid and completely manipulated (which I don’t believe but it’s a possibility either way) then the prince convinced her that kael is cruel and irredimeble which kept for reconciling with him even after the two separated.

So yeah, I’m really on the fence with Diana at the moment, I’ll she what the next chapter brings to reach a conclusion

we need to think about cael in the context we were given. he was originally a secondary ml, a character that is usually constructed with an undying romantic affection for the fl that it is usually implied that they continued to love their fl for their entire lives even after the ending. cael is actually a more extreme example of licht from I Picked Up The Second Male Lead After The Ending, an exploration of what a character that was created to completely emotionally dependent on another character would realistically look like after they were refused and abandoned. cael loves diana because that love is everything that has ever defined him in the original character, a core part of his being. he still loves diana because he was only ever created to love her. if you think that this is seeing things too meta you have to remember that this is a transmigration story and they are meta narratives by design, cael is a character in two stories (3 if we also count hestia’s first timeline). so now what is he supposed to do, that the entire reason for his existence has abandoned him? him and licht show exactly this, how hard it is for people of the typology of a second ml to recover and get their life back together considering that they still have an unhealthy obsession and emotional dependence of these women. of course it’s hard, of course cael is mean and emotionally constipated and cold towards hestia. he is confused and hurt. he has a gaping and bleeding emotional wound that has barely started healing and, if left like that, would fester to the poiny of killing him. in short, cael is depressed as shit, and from experience I can say that he is a surprisingly good portrait of a depressed person, so cut my man some slack. as far as trashy ml’s go he doesn’t even break the top 10

I am much more interested in diana. a saintess becoming a villain is not uncommon but diana’s character is much more interesting because she is also a character study. the commoner who climbed all the way to the top and how that can change a person. a character created to be the center of her world now has that place stolen. her and helios’ attitudes towards cael are caused by his place in their story as the second ml. his entire existence is tied to his love for diana, so obviously seeing a man that just recently obviously loved her with his entire heart and soul marry all of a sudden(and to a completely unknown woman) is surprising exactly because his love was so passionate. I would also like to add that diana probably feels a sense of ownership towards cael, she thought that even if she chooses helios cael would also always be hers, hestia shows her the opposite, that the world doesn’t play in her favour anymore and that cael is his own person that can make his own decisions, decisions that don’t implicate her at all. additionally, I would like to add that diana probably lost her abilities already and that’s why she doesn’t visit the temple anymore, not because she doesn’t want to interact with commoners now that she is the crown princes but because she can’t do her job anymore. In short, I don’t believe that diana is good or bad, I think she would turn up to be a much more morally gray character, but she definitely has main character syndrome

I have to congratulate the author, the characters are really well written and surprisingly complex. I especially think that cael was given enough room to breath in the narrative, as his type of character is really hard to write appropriately and I really believe he is utilized beautifully

Diana knows Kael kill the family for good, I understand that she thinks killing them is a bit extreme but she just completely cut him off afterwards, it’s not like she has a better solution anyways. Kael is hurt not because she didn’t love him, he already knows that she love the cp, it’s because it just seem like she didn’t care about him at all, not even as a friend. She cut him off so she didn’t have to deal with any consequences of being friend or having any sort of friendly relationship with him. Diana is no way an honourable person, let alone having the title of saintess just for possessing healing power. the way saintesses are portrayed in manhwas have nothing to do with saints in real life (I talk here from an orthodox christian perspective because this is what I grew up with) but, the ideals of selflessness and care for the poor still remain. I believe that, in universe, a saint shouldn’t even be allowed to occupy a position as empress or crown princess, that would give them too much power and it would muddle the separation between church and state, but that’s just a personal opinion, not necessarily a critique
also I don’t believe kael fell in love with diana after she fell in love with helios. I believe the orgininal story was a classic love triangle where they both met and fell in love with her at about the same time and she lead both of them on until she finally chose helios
and people don’t hate diana because she didn’t love kael, they hate her because she is a hypocrite. I believe she didn’t make any grave mistakes in her relationship with kael rather than completely refusing to understand that he is uncomfortable with her presence now. but the rest? she 100% enjoys her postion as the saintess but doesn’t go to the temple anymore or help the poor. And it’s also obvious that she never actually thought about her values clearly. she claims murder is wrong and murders should be punished. good, nothing to criticize there. but, going back to hestia’s words, why is kael still walking around? kael was her friend and helped her enormously, and apparently that was enough to make him an exception. if she is so against murder why didn’t she push for kael’s execution or at least imprisonment, house arrest, stripping of his title, anything really. why did she just let helios sweep everything under the rug? because she cares for kael and that was enough to bend her morality and pretend to forget what he did in the hopes the three of them could be friends all over again
diana is not a bad person, or even a villain. she is a hypocrite, happily enjoying the advantages brought by her status and relationships with kael and helios without actually doing anything for them, not even her JOB as a SAINTESS. but instead of being honest about it and recognising that she is not a purely good person that can do no wrong and deserves everything she has just because of who she was born she plants her feet firmly in the ground and puts herself on a moral highground even if she willfully ignored horrible crimes (kael’s murder of the ducal family) just because it benefitted her and she cared for the perpetrator
that’s why hestia is such a good counter for her. she is not fully good and never claimed to be and this giver her a greater moral flexibily and introspection than diana. everyone is kissing diana’s ass, believing that she could do no wrong, but hestia shoves all her hypocrisy in her face and forces her to defend her actions and when she can’t, diana freezes, because no one ever made her do that before. by the end I believe that diana will either learn from all the challenges hestia gives her and will become a better version of herself (a better person, saintess and even crown princess if she and helios don’t divorce this time around) or will double down on her insistence to be ignorant of the circumstances around her and will completely fall from grace. because ignorance is not bad in and of itself, but willful ignorance is, and diana is fully guilty of it

Valid. That was the main problem I had with Diana. Her being a saintess should have disqualified her as crown princess. She’s not exactly evil but she’s a hypocrite.
I read the novel so my opinion is a bit different. I ended up shipping Helios and Hestia at one point before going back to the original. Especially since Kael takes forever to get over Diana and then flip flops to saving Diana. But later, the story between Hestia and Kael becomes really sweet.

as for diana, i kind of understand her perspective. she does have special powers, anyone with supranatural powers, especially powers tied to your local faith, would start believing that they are special and godsend. I don’t think it’s that weird or even a damnable offence. I believe kael and heli’s influence over her was what really sealed the deal for her to become so entitled. Instead of keeping her ego in check and reminding her of the duty she herself has taken on, they just treated her like she was perfect and more than human. heli and kael liked her specifically because of the goodness that she was demonstrating with her powers, now that she is crown princess that goodness almost disappeared, she got seduced by her own influence, she is not the woman they have fallen in love with anymore. after she loses her powers, the novel version of diana will truly disappear, if I have to guess, that’s probably what prompted her divorce in the first timeline (divorce which I believe was proposed by heli)
but this also makes me wonder. what happened between heli, diana and kael in the first timeline? in this one diana and heli seem to at least care for him on a superficial level, for old time’s sakes, but there is no proof that they did anything with the very public information that kael was constantly trying to kill himself in the first timeline. wouldn’t diana run to kael for validation after heli left her? she definitely seems like the kind of person. wouldn’t heli at least check on his childhood best friend when he hears what happens? I don’t think so, even in this timeline he only did it when he heard he got married. as for diana, I believe she might have tried something of the sort but it ended really badly

I saw a comment saying “it’s kael’s fault” because she knew Diana for what she are and he still liked her and do all those things for her, idk if some of y’all forgot or just didn’t understand the story enough because all of those wouldn’t be kael’s fault at all. Because he’s a “character” from a “story” he was was meant to be so crazy in love with diana, and was written to kill the family then kill himself afterwards, THIS ISN’T KAEL’S FAULT, HE IS JUST A CHARACTER AN AUTHOR WROTE! AND WAS MEANT TO BE THAT WAY.
And to that part that the other people say “She should be grateful” im on the middle, because if they mean that killing was a grateful thing to do then they’re wrong. But for me personally the phrase “she should be grateful” was when the time where kael would often care for her because the so-called “saint” and her husband “heli” just left him to his regret, they were kael’s friend but they just watched him, they could have done something like talking to each other and asking each other “why did kael do that” they didn’t even want to hear an explanation and just left him because of the fact that they think that “killing the family was wrong” they were stuck to that part so they didn’t want to hear an explanation to kael. They don’t even know that kael was been trying to kill himself and what was the reason except when it appeared on the news.
From my opinion a “real friend” would still atleast care for you specially when you’re at you’re lowest, and a “true friend” would consider to accept the mistakes you’ve done, unlike what the two couple did, they just abandoned him and didn’t even know the truth or what exactly the reason why kael did that. Also the “saint”?? they hate the saint “because she was too nice”?? I don’t know where you got that from but as it portraits in the story, the “saint” here acts like a victim, she isn’t even aware of what they’ve done to kael and had the nerve to treat him casually or like they used to.
he fl here is making an avenge NOT JUST BECAUSE of the “saint” the “saint” was part of it because BOTH of the saint and her husband abandoned kael without any hesitation, thats why it drives kaels to lose his mind and commit suicide, tho i don’t think the fl is taking things too far because she’s just showing what the true “saint” is in public. She only took back what belong to kael, and do those things. As for me, it would be too far if the fl hurt her in some physical way, or even try to kill her. But no she didn’t do any of that, she has her own limits.

Also, what i suggest rn is if you think that you don’t like the mc then stop reading, this is for people in general. I’ve encountered so many people who reads and complain about the mc some say they really hate it, but they keep on reading probably because they like the story, but if you don’t like the mc don’t complain if you still wanna read it, because you will see the mc everytime, obviously because its the “Main Character” and was written that way by the author.
