I want to love this story but the FL (black hair) can’t stop overreacting to her love to the point they can never hold a proper conversation. Kael really does try and she ends up screaming, shaking, talking in her head, red faced, and then running away.

We are almost at 30 chapters and she can’t seem to get it together. How does this help him not unalive himself?

Valid. That was the main problem I had with Diana. Her being a saintess should have disqualified her as crown princess. She’s not exactly evil but she’s a hypocrite.

I read the novel so my opinion is a bit different. I ended up shipping Helios and Hestia at one point before going back to the original. Especially since Kael takes forever to get over Diana and then flip flops to saving Diana. But later, the story between Hestia and Kael becomes really sweet.

I’m about to unload on you so I apologize I’m advance.
I feel like you’ve missed something quite big.

First, she didn’t ask for him to kill them, you’re right. But you’re conveniently forgetting that he did it FOR her AND HIS BEST friend. You know, the guy he’s known since they were children? Notice how Kael only started trying to commit suicide AFTER the wedding, ya know the wedding we never see him invited to even though Helios has been his best friend since childhood. We also see no mention of Helios and Diana coming to check on Kaelus after his first suicide attempt. (The most we get is when Caelus gets pissed the last time Helios visited and hit the window, which we know had more to do with how he married a stranger than actual concern for him) We see no mention of Helios using his power as the Prince to protect the person who might as well be his brother, liking the same girl or not.

Second, it’s not that she rejected him, mostly, some of it is also that, but really it’s more to do with, she completely disavowed him as a friend and a good person. Basically, she got the reward (marrying her love and got the power) at the expense of someone who was supposed to be her friend. She basically took a sword and stabbed him, leaving him wide open to several attacks from people who’d want to take advantage of the sudden discord I’m sure happened between a Marquis and the Prince, she left him vulnerable to being completely abandoned by anyone in high society, something you might notice when the FL brings up how she believed her husband is in the right at the tea party and how there was an entire scene where Diana spirals in panic bc everyone starts whispering about it. You see it in the fact that he was being hunted by nobility in the very beginning when the FL and Caelus met the first time. You see it when you realize that there is no mention of other nobility trying to comfort Caelus after his suicide attempt. (The closest we get is a mention about the war and how Caelus would’ve gotten a better contract, but that is it.) She left him wide open for an attack from EVERYWHERE. So she stabbed him and then wiped her hands of the entire situation. And after disavowing his actions, months later when Hestia and Helios rush to meet the king and Diana runs into Caelus, she literally tried to talk to him as if they were still friends. As if she didn’t just stab him, left him vulnerable without a care (to get married to his best friend btw, who we see nothing of in trying to support his friend during that time), and then she’s acting as if they just spoke not even a week ago on good terms.

Third, it’s never outright stated, or implied, that Cael even admitted his feelings. The closest we get is when the Princess is talking to Hestia about the land, which in itself could be seen as a declaration of love, and for the romantics I’m sure it was, but here’s a news flash, that’s also something you’d do if you had the money and the land for your best friends girlfriend, if she was struggling for support in the noble circles. Give them a piece of land, bc now their words have some weight and your best friend would be happy. All we know is that Diana is aware of Kael’s feelings, not that he actually ever admitted them, which we see in the fact that she feels guilty for getting angry at Hestia for taking the land away from the church.

So this is what we know, Kael was frowned upon by Diana and the other nobles for who he killed, mind you people who were already pretty sure were bad people counting they tried to blackmail their prince into marrying who they chose instead of who he loved. Kael tries to commit suicide, a fact that was in the commoner’s papers so no way they didn’t know, and no nobility visits to check on him. No mention of his best friend contacting him before or after the weddings. We know he killed those people bc they were trying to blackmail their prince into marrying who they wanted. We know that he was willing to let his best friend marry the girl he loves, because that’s why he killed those people. Bc they were pushing his best friend to marry someone didn’t love, to push out the possibility of marriage between Diana and Helios. We, also, know that Diana and Helios were aware of Kaelus’ feelings, but no implication that HE was the one to tell them of his feelings. Bc did you even pause to think that these people are supposed to be his closest friends and they’d probably notice when he starts acting weird around the only new aspect, their girl who is a friend. We know that Diana let the church keep the land that she knew the Marquis bought for her, after she married, and probably even before that, counting the land was never mentioned in the papers as something big given by another guy who is in love with the commoner’s beloved Saintess.

I personally hate Diana for a few reasons. 1) she abandoned someone who sacrificed himself for HER. It doesn’t matter if you didn’t ask for that sacrifice. If you end up happy, because someone sacrificed something for you, you better damn well show your gratitude, especially for someone who is supposed to be one of your closest friends. 2) everything is based on HER version of right and wrong, the only time we EVER see her questioning if she was right to, ya know ABANDON her closest friend, is in the convo with Helios after the tea party. And even then, it was less her doubting herself and more she wanted her husband’s support. 3) Diana doesn’t seem like the type of person who’d abandon the commoner people, not with all the crap she just pulled with the Noble ladies and their extravagant spending. No I think someone high up blinded her and SHE LET THEM. Bc she’s the crown Princess now, if she wants to go out to the church, who’s gonna stop her? Her husband? Who loves her? So we can only assume she was manipulated (which is even worse when you consider that she’s supposed to be her husband’s support and backup as a ruler) or she let herself be lied to. 4) SHE ABANDONED HER BEST FRIEND. 5) when she finally realized Kaelus’ feelings for her, she didn’t immediately return all the gifts he’d given to her, or at the very least try to. She basically, took everything he gave her, used it for her own purposes, used HIM, and then left him bleeding out.
