She sisn’t do anything. A man send her a creepy love letter, she didn’t like it, but assumed she doesn’t need to care about it much, so she put it in a box and forget it. Her husband found it and though she was cheating on him.
He either isn’t himself somehow due to his illness and isn’t exactly seeing her per se maybe the former duchess, idk. Or knowing his time is up he is playing a role and forcefully teaching her to be strong and stand her ground. To not let others’ pushing weaken her guard as without him she is to become the head of the house until the eldest is old enough to take the title and duties.

So, let me get this straight: the unknown necklace she received triggered Johanne, and he took out his paranoia and rage on her. Who was that necklace connected to, and why would it set him off like that?
Wait, does anyone remember is she came back to life after Johannes already died or was this the first time she received a necklace? Also, if was shown it was Theobal who sent it to her this time, but was the 1st by him too? And who told Johannes where the necklace was? Ugh..too many questions….?
Okay so for people who are confused, here’s a full description of what just happened.
First of all, this whole thing is a flashback triggered by Shuli receiving the necklace from Theo
When Shuli was 15 she received an anonymous gift of the necklace, accompanied by a very incriminating love letter. Shuli, being a scared kid, didn’t know what to do. So she hid it, with vague plans of finding who sent it and giving it back
(I’ve asked novel readers and apparently we never find out who sent it, so don’t hold your breath for that.)
But then Johannes ends up finding the necklace: and this is where everything goes to hell. So Johannes is actually very sick at this point and he’s not clear headed when accusing Shuli. The translation doesn’t make this clear but he seems to think he’s talking to Ludovica, the former empress and Theo’s mom. I think I’m the book he actually assumes that Duke Nuremberg was the one who gave her the necklace. It’s very “if I can’t have you nobody can”. Shuli of course has no idea what he’s talking about and is terrified. She always thought of Johannes as very a kind man, and someone who saved her from her family. She can’t reconcile that with the violent man screaming at her now, which is why Johannes’s face keeps being distorted.
So I’m a little unclear on this next part, if anybody else knows please tell me. But Shuli’s begging seems to make him realize who he’s talking to (?) And he tells her he needs to be stronger. He grabs her really hard by the wrist (you can see the bruises he leaves when Shuli is reaching for the door and ringing the bell), and throws her into a pitch black room and holding it shut, as punishment? I think? Shuli is scared and bangs at the door begging to be let out. But I think the stress causes Johannes to have a bad flare up of his illness and he almost drowns in a puddle of his own blood, causing him to let the door open and letting Shuli go.
