For anyone who’s confused, several times throughout the series Shuli has appeared to have flashbacks of some traumatic event that she seems to be repressing. It happened one during Jeremy’s trial, and again when he gave her the necklace. Expensive necklaces seem to be a trigger for her. I think whatever happened may have been in Johannes’ office, given how uncomfortable she feels there but that’s just a theory.
Anyway, we have no way of knowing exactly what happened, but given Everett’s remarks about being afraid of Johannes, and Shuli’s apparent discomfort with his old office, I think Johannes was not always the great man everyone says he was. The guy who married a 14 year old was secretly an asshole. Who could have guessed.
Also since there’s no indication on the end of this chapter (great translation by the way!) the series is going on another two month hiatus so ORKA can prepare for the shit show that I assume will follow, given everything that’s been set up
